- Assigning ICD and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures
- Checking with providers when notes are unclear
- Talking to clinical staff about documentation
- Researching complex or unusual cases
- Reviewing patient charts and the previous day’s notes
- Making sure all codes used are current
