Responsibilities of a Network Engineer:

  • Support the day-to-day operations of enterprise and data center network infrastructure by following established operational procedures.
  • Assist in implementing, validating, and deploying network changes in production environments.
  • Perform periodic operational tasks such as software upgrades, patch management, failover testing, and network health audits.
  • Monitor support channels, respond to incidents, and escalate issues when required.
  • Troubleshoot basic network connectivity problems and collect diagnostic information for advanced support teams.
  • Maintain network documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks.
  • Continuously learn new networking technologies, infrastructure tools, and operational best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain secure, reliable, and highly available network services.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • 0–2 years in network engineering, infrastructure or a related technical role.

Required skills:

  • Strengthen your understanding of Computer Networks, including the OSI Model, TCP/IP, routing, and switching.
  • Revise networking protocols such as OSPF, BGP, VLAN, NAT, ACL, DHCP, and DNS.
  • Learn the basics of Cisco networking devices, switches, and routers.
  • Gain hands-on practice using networking simulators such as Cisco Packet Tracer or GNS3.
  • Build a basic understanding of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud networking services.
  • Learn scripting fundamentals using Python or PowerShell for network automation.
  • Prepare troubleshooting scenarios involving enterprise and data center networks.
  • Practice technical interview questions related to networking, cloud infrastructure, and Linux basics.
  • Research Expedia Group’s cloud infrastructure, engineering culture, and travel technology platforms before attending interviews.
